Iran Bitumen is a black material which is used in construction and road industry. The other names that are used for this material are Asphalt, Tar and Gilsonite. In the past people used tar in order to seal the hulls of ships and boats. As a matter of fact the sources of Asphalt, Tar and Gilsonite are different.  On the other hand the source of Bitumen is petroleum.  It is significant to note that there are two kinds of Asphalt, petroleum Asphalt and natural Asphalt (Gilsonite).  The word Asphalt is also used for a mixture of Bitumen and sand that is used for road surfacing.
